PLASTER RESTORATION SYSTEM

PART 1 GENERAL

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Comply with Section 01330 - Submittal Procedures.

B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data, including surface preparation and application instructions.

C. Samples: Submit manufacturer's 6-inch square sample of fiberglass mat.

D. Manufacturer's Certification: Submit manufacturer's certification that materials comply with specified requirements and are suitable for intended application.

E. Warranty: Submit manufacturer's standard warranty.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage:

  1. Store materials in clean, dry area in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Keep containers sealed until ready for use.
  3. Protect coatings from freezing.

C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and application to prevent damage or contamination.

2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 PLASTER RESTORATION SYSTEM

Specifier Notes: Use the following paragraph to specify leaded paint encapsulation. Specify one of the three NU-WAL Restoration Systems.

  1. NU-WAL #2500 Coating.
    1. ASTM E 1795, Type 1, interior use.
  2. NU-WAL #2500 Coating / WC-14 Fiberglass Mat.
    1. ASTM E 1797, Type 1, interior use.
    2. Flame Spread Rating, ASTM E 84: Class A.
  3. NU-WAL #2500 Coating / POL-E-CAP Trim Reinforcing.
    1. ASTM E 1797, Type 1, interior use.

B. Plaster Restoration System: NU-WAL Restoration System.

C. Fiberglass Mat: WC-14 Fiberglass Mat.

  1. Description: Porous, nonwoven, nonwicking, nonflammable, fiberglass mat, composed of fiberglass monofilaments oriented in random pattern, bonded together with acrylic binder.
  2. Weight, FG 436-704: 1.15 pounds per 100 square feet, nominal.
  3. Thickness, FG 1436-956: 18 mils, nominal.
  4. Tensile Strength, FG 436-703:
    1. Machine Direction: 40 pounds per 3-inch width, nominal.
    2. Cross Machine Direction: 30 pounds per 3-inch width, nominal.

D. Coating: #2500 Coating.

  1. Description: Liquid acrylic emulsion used to saturate and adhere fiberglass mat to construction materials.
  2. Compliance: ASTM E 1795, Type 1, interior use.
  3. Elongation, Aged 30-mil Film, ASTM D 2370: 106 percent.
  4. Tensile Strength, Dry Film, ASTM D 2370: 237 psi.
  5. Smoke Developed, ASTM E 84: 4.8.

Specifier Notes: Specify POL-E-CAP Trim Reinforcing and #3600 Top Coat if required as part of the NU-WAL Restoration System. They are optional materials. Consult Specification Chemicals for additional information.

E. Trim Reinforcing: POL-E-CAP Trim Reinforcing. 5-mil spunbonded polyester reinforcing fabric.

F. Acrylic Top Coat: #3600 Top Coat. Acrylic finish coat applied over #2500 Coating.


PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION


A. Examine surfaces to receive plaster restoration system. Notify Architect of conditions that would adversely affect application. Do not proceed with application until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION

A. Prepare surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Ensure surfaces are clean and dry.

C. Remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, rust, loose particles, mildew, and other contaminants that could interfere with adhesion of restoration system.

D. Sand ridges of cracks to even plane.

E. Fill cracks larger than 1/16 inch and repair holes in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

F. Spot prime bare plaster and patched areas.

G. Ensure surfaces are painted or sealed.

H. Seal chalky surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.3 APPLICATION

A. Apply plaster restoration system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Do not add thinners to coating materials.

C. Ensure completed application forms seamless, monolithic surface; leaves no differing textures; and covers cracks and holes.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. Protect applied plaster restoration system from damage during construction.
