Products and System Introductions Specification Chemicals, Inc. developed the POL-E-BASE METAL BUILDING REPAIR SYSTEM after 15 years and three generations of system improvements. The first generation was our #1300 WHITE PLASTIC with fiberglass scrim embedded over the seams. The fiberglass scrim was stiff and its memory made it difficult to apply. Next we exchanged the fiberglass scrim for polyester fabric which was more conforming and solved the fabric application problem. The problem of roof movement from either wind or walking on the roof during application caused the lap seams to open and close before the mastic would cure and adhere to the metal surface. The result of this was usually distorted fabric or loss of liquid product leaving a void or inadequate mil thickness of mastic after this movement. The seam movement problem is even more of a factor with roof repair systems that do not use a reinforcement fabric. The answer to all these problems came in 1988 when we first produced self adhering POL-E-BASE. Application is simple, you peel the release paper from the roll as you stick the membrane over the seam. The self adhering POL-E-BASE sticks to the metal instantly and assures an adequate and uniform thickness over the seam. POL-E-BASE assures encapsulation of the screws or fasteners. The exposed POL-E-BASE fabric produces an excellent substrate for the #1300 WHITE PLASTIC that is used as the protective coating over the POL-E-BASE.
